2015 Irrigation Symposium to be held at Irrigation Show

The Irrigation Association and the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers will hold the 2015 Irrigation Symposium in Long Beach, Calif., Nov. 10 – 12.

The 2015 symposium will be held in conjunction with the annual Irrigation Show & Education Conference. The event will include a poster session on the show floor and more than 50 peer-reviewed papers with presentations on a wide range of topics in agricultural and landscape irrigation, such as:

  • Evapotranspiration
  • Ground-based and remote sensing for irrigation
  • Spatial irrigation management with center pivots
  • Deficit irrigation strategies
  • Irrigation management with variable rate irrigation systems
  • Microirrigation for improving production and reducing environmental concerns
  • Irrigation controllers and sensors
  • Irrigation scheduling and management
  • Sustainability

The event is titled “Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Irrigation: A Tribute to the Career of Terry Howell Sr.” and recognizes the outstanding contributions of industry pioneer Terry Howell Sr., PhD, PE.

At the beginning of his career, Howell worked as an assistant professor at both New Mexico State University and Texas A&M before joining the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service. He has dedicated more than 34 years of service at federal facilities and spent the vast majority of his career at the ARS Conservation and Production Research Laboratory in Bushland, Texas. ASABE and IA will honor Howell during the symposium’s opening-night reception on Monday, Nov. 9.

The symposium is open to all attendees with full registrations.
