APLD seeks “Designer of the Year” for 2010

The Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) is accepting entries for the 2010 International Landscape Design Awards.  The awards recognize excellence in the field of professional landscape design.  You do not need to be a member of APLD to enter this award program.  Every designer has a chance to earn national coverage, industry recognition and the chance at free APLD conference registration.

Think you have what it takes? Each entry is judged upon a variety of criteria, which are updated each year to recognize the growth of the program. Past criteria have included: effectiveness of presentation; functionality of design elements; suitability of plant material; relationship to site; environmental responsibility; effective integration of plans and hardscapes; originality and creativity; design’s affect on maintenance, current and future; and, overall impression.  Sustainability, a concern for every industry, will be considered in the judging of each category.

There are six landscape design categories: residential design, non-residential design, small gardens, planting design, specialty projects and show gardens.
The best entries, judged by a distinguished international jury, will receive a gold award. Other deserving entries will receive a merit award.  From the gold award entries, the judges will choose the 2010 APLD International Landscape Designer of the Year.

Margie Grace of Grace Design Associates, Inc., a Santa Barbara-based landscape design and build company, was honored with the top award for 2009 and a Gold Award for residential landscape design.   “We’ve had our work profiled in numerous national publications, and have enjoyed a period of business growth during a recessionary period,” said Margie Grace.  “These two awards mean so much to the entire team, knowing our hard work and design sense has been recognized by our peers.”
Awards will be presented during the awards banquet at the 2010 APLD International Landscape Design Conference in Dallas, Texas, in September 2010.  Deadline for entries is February 1, 2010.  Visit www.apld.org for information and submission guidelines.
