Bayer CropScience announces two new appointments

Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience LP, announced the appointment of Jeff Michel as herbicide marketing product manager, and Sheryl Wells, Ph.D., as technical field development representative for the Southeastern U.S.

Michel is responsible for implementing the short- to mid-term U.S. marketing plans for Bayer’s professional turf and ornamental (T&O) herbicide business, which is the fastest growing within the T&O industry. The product portfolio includes innovative solutions such as Specticle, Tribute Total, and Celsius.

“It’s great to be part of an organization that continuously creates new solutions that help the industry progress and grow,” Michel said. “I look forward to using the technical experience I’ve gained as part of Bayer’s development team to share with customers how Bayer can support their needs.”

Wells is responsible for conducting both internal and external trial support work to develop new and innovative concepts for the Environmental Science division. Her most recent role was extension specialist in Ornamental Horticulture, Landscape Pollution Prevention, and Landscape Water Management with the University of Georgia.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to introduce new solutions that will help Bayer continue to care for and protect the green spaces where our customers live, work and play,” Wells said.

Most recently, Michel led an herbicide project team at Bayer. Michel has supported Bayer over the past nine years as a Field Development Representative with the Southeastern U.S. turf and ornamental business. Prior to Bayer, Michel worked as Technical Director for Massey Services, a professional lawn and landscape service organization in Florida.

Wells has an extensive and diverse background with T&O management, working in key areas including nematicide research, and academic instruction and outreach to county agents, national garden clubs, master gardeners, and green industry professionals. She has covered issues relating to water quality, water conservation, pollution prevention, and new and efficient irrigation technology and practices. As part of her early career endeavors, Wells was employed as a Golf Course Superintendent.

Scott Welge, Head of Marketing for Bayer’s Professional Lawn and Golf businesses, said, “We are delighted to welcome Jeff and Sheryl to their new positions. Jeff’s breadth of experience in research and development is critical to communicating the value of our solutions. Sheryl’s extensive background, in R&D along with extension service and golf, uniquely positions her to not only develop new solutions, but do so based on a thorough understanding of customers’ needs.”
