BBS acquires Ward Landscape Architects

BBS Architects & Engineers, P.C. acquired the professional team and practice of Ward Associates, P.C., a Bohemia, NY-headquartered landscape architecture, master planning, architecture, sports facilities design, civil engineering and surveying firm active in the Greater New York area and throughout the New York State.

Roger P. Smith, AIA, LEED AP, will lead the expanded design firm as President, Principal and Lead Architect.  The merged companies will operate under the new name of BBS Architects, Landscape Architects and Engineers, PC.  The company will be headquartered at BBS’ office in Patchogue, NY, and offer a full scope of architecture and engineering services to clients in the Northeast and nationwide.

“The addition of the Ward Associates team to BBS’s practice brings together the talents and extensive expertise of two highly distinguished and service-driven design firms, particularly in the landscape architecture and civil engineering fields.  Following the acquisition, BBS manages on-going projects valued at approximately $220 million and offers a complete range of architectural and engineering services required by commercial, educational, institutional and governmental clients,” said BBS Principal and Lead Architect Roger P. Smith, AIA, LEED AP.  “The complementary expertise and client base made Ward a perfect acquisition partner in order to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Long Island, New York City, Westchester and other markets in the Northeast.”

Added Richard G. Ward, ASLA, Ward Associates President and CEO: “BBS’ leading position in the Greater New York area will open new markets and career opportunities to our designers and engineers, particularly in the landscape design, civil engineering, green design, and educational and institutional sectors.  The combined strengths of both firms have created an unparalleled design organization.”

Following the expansion, BBS’ personnel include more than 50 landscape architects, planners, architects, interior designers, civil and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) engineers, lighting designers, project managers and support staff.

Founded in 1975, BBS is a leading regional and national designer of sustainable educational, institutional and commercial facilities.  BBS designed the first LEED-certified public school in New York State, the Hampton Bays Middle School in Hampton Bays, NY and since 2010 has had 10 projects that either received LEED certifications or are undergoing the certification process.  LEED is a nationally recognized sustainability evaluation program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
