Dates change for PLANET’s Legislative Day on the Hill and Renewal & Remembrance

The dates for the Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET’s) annual Legislative Day on the Hill and Renewal & Remembrance have been changed to July 24–26, 2011. The original dates, July 17–19, conflicted with the congressional calendar and would have impacted the visits of PLANET members with their representatives and senators.

On Monday, July 25, green industry companies will help beautify the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery during the award-winning Renewal & Remembrance program. Each year, this event draws hundreds of landscape and lawn care professionals from across the country to Arlington National Cemetery to spend the day mulching, cabling and installing lightening protection for trees, pruning, planting, and liming and aerating more than 200 acres. Major James T. Ward, Jr., (USMC-Ret), owner of Lawn Doctor in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, will deliver the industry dedication address. CNA’s Claims Chief, Major General George R. Fay, (USA-Ret), will be the featured guest speaker.

On Tuesday, July 26, PLANET members will visit the Capitol Hill offices of their representatives and senators to discuss issues of vital importance to the green industry. The Legislative Day Keynote will feature ABC News’ Senior Congressional Correspondent Jonathan Karl. Karl joined ABC News as a senior foreign affairs correspondent covering the State Department after having been with CNN where he covered Capitol Hill, the White House, and the Pentagon.

The Tree Care Industry Association will partner with PLANET to host this year’s events, whose Platinum Sponsor is Syngenta.

The Key Bridge Marriott at 1401 Lee Highway, Arlington, Virginia, will once again be the center of action for this year’s Legislative Day on the Hill and Renewal & Remembrance. Hotel reservations can be made by calling (703) 524-6400 on or before July 1, 2011, and asking for the PLANET rate or by going online to Marriott.
