PGMS announces newest board members

Joe Jackson, CGM, director of ground & sanitation services at Duke University in Durham, N.C. was elected and installed as the new president of the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) during the Society’s annual awards and induction dinner held on Friday, Oct. 29 in conjunction with the 2010 School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 27-30.


The 89th grounds management professional to hold the office, Jackson succeeds Monica Higgins, CGM as the chief elected officer of the 99-year-old green industry organization. In 2011 PGMS will celebrate its centennial celebration of being “rooted in 100 years of professionalism.” As part of this grand celebration, Jackson’s priority is to establish PGMS as leaders at the forefront of sustainability efforts. “We can make it happen,” he exclaims.


In addition to Jackson, PGMS members elected Donald Bottger, CGM of General Growth Properties in Chula Vista, Calif. as their president-elect. John Van Etten, CGM of Hoffman Landscape & Design in Scotia, N.Y. was elected vice president and Walter Bonvell, CGM of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio was elected as secretary/treasurer.
The regional directors are as follows: North East Regional Director, John Doiron of Concord Hospital in Concord, N.H.; North Central Regional Director, Dennis Baker of Harrison, Ohio; North West Regional Director, Gerald Landby of Carroll College in Helena, Mont.; South East Regional Director, Marion Bolick, CGM of Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C.; South Central Regional Director, John Burns, CGM of the University of Texas in Austin; and South West Regional Director, Ron Hostick, CSFM of San Diego State University.
Directors at Large include: Diana Bramble-Rudolph of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington,


D.C.; Mark Feist of American University in Washington, D.C.; and Gerry Dobbs, CGM of Michigan State University East Lansing, Mich.


Thomas C. Shaner, a Certified Association Executive continues to serve the Board as PGMS Executive Director. PGMS leaders are already at work planning the 2011 School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO which will take place in Louisville, KY., Oct. 26-29, 2011.
