April 22 was the Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET’s) 5th annual PLANET Day of Service. The theme this year was Come Alive Outside. Landscape industry professionals planned and organized more than 140 projects, with the help of 1,900 volunteers from 36 states and Canada and Trinidad and Tobago. Some of the projects included creating memorial gardens; sprucing up Boys & Girls facilities, sports fields and churches; planting gardens; and cleaning up city parks. The value of the time and services donated during this year’s Day of Service was estimated at $660,000.
Many of PLANET’s 15 state, regional and allied partners organized projects, as did some of the event sponsors, which included Belgard Hardscapes, Blizzard Snowplows, Fisher Snowplows, Include Software, John Deere, Nature Safe, Western, TruGreen, Shindaiwa, CNA, Stihl Inc., Snapper Pro, Turf Appeal, Highgrove Partners, and The Greenwood Group.
