Provide input on new standards affecting irrigation

As a result of recent activity related to standards affecting both agricultural and landscape irrigation, multiple standards are now available for public comment. These product and testing standards will eventually be referenced in codes or other green building initiatives.
The public is invited to offer expertise and comments to a proposed standard after a standards development committee creates a draft. This is a unique opportunity to participate in the development process, which could affect your business and the industry. All comments must be considered by the committee, and your input could influence the final standard. The following provides information about standards available for public comment:

  • The International Code Council Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler and Emitter Standard (ICC 802-2014) first published in 2014 will undergo a committee and public review process to determine whether the standard will be re-affirmed, revised or withdrawn. At this time, the ICC is accepting input to revise the 2014 edition for the consensus committee to consider for the 2018 edition. The deadline for comments has been extended to Dec. 11, 2017. Go to the ICC website for more information.
  • The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials is seeking volunteers for the 2020 WE-Stand Technical Committee. This is the first American National Standards Institute standard that deals exclusively with water efficiency and includes provisions that cover irrigation. To read more about participation, go to the IAPMO website. Applications are due Nov. 30, 2017.
  • A new proposed standard for American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers 191P, the Standard for the Efficient Use of Water in Building Mechanical Systems, provides baseline requirements for the design of mechanical systems that minimize the volume of water required to operate HVAC systems. The draft is open to comment until Nov. 27. Click here to review the draft, and comments can be submitted directly to ASHRAE.
  • The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers is soliciting comments for the reaffirmation of BSR/ASAE S397.4 Electrical Service and Equipment for Irrigation. Contact Walter Brace at ASABE before Nov. 27.
  • The ASABE is seeking experts to offer comments and suggestions for two International Organization for Standardization standards and work projects. Contact Jean Walsh at the ASABE for more details.
    • Expert input is needed immediately on the new work projects: Remote Monitoring and Control Technologies (i.e., big data and “internet of things”) and Filters — Determination of Filtration Grade.
    • Comments are being collected until Jan. 16, 2018, on ISO 10522 Direct-acting Pressure-regulating Valves and ISO16438 Thermoplastic Collapsible Hoses for Irrigation — Specifications and Test Methods.
