Salt Lake City’s Richard Williams earns CGM status

The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) announced that Richard Williams of Salt Lake City, Utah has become the 125th grounds management professional to successfully complete its Certified Grounds Manager (CGM) program. Williams currently serves as the grounds manager at Shriners Hospital for Children in Salt Lake City.

Williams wanted to become a CGM in order to boost recognition for both himself and his profession. “I felt like our industry was not recognized enough for the experience and training required,” Williams explained. “I felt like the Certification would give recognition to our field of expertise, on a personal and professional level.”

After completing the two-part exam process, Williams reflected on his thoughts about the program. “It made me realize the scope and intricacy of grounds maintenance, and I enjoyed the review and learning process. It was a lot of work, but was rewarding, and it leads to a valuable source of information to have compiled on your grounds.”

Those achieving the CGM professional designation must have first accomplished a set level of education and on-the-job experience and then successfully completed a two-part examination process administered by PGMS.
