The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) announced its 2014 collegiate scholarship recipients.

This year’s recipients:

Matthew McKernan of Kansas State University received $1,600 (sponsored by PGMS member Dr. Cathie Lavis of Kansas State University);
Rachel Comte of University of Cincinnati received $1,300 (sponsored by PGMS member Jennifer Gulick of Davey Resource Group);
Jeffery Fox of Clark State College received $1,100 (sponsored by PGMS member Dr. Susan Everett of Clark State College);
Julia Thome of University of Maryland received $900 (sponsored by PGMS member Ken Ingram of University of Maryland);
and Jacob Suissa of University of Vermont (sponsored by PGMS member Rosemarie Leland of University of Vermont) and Clinton Truitt of Gwinnett Technical College (sponsored by PGMS member Gail Zorn of Gwinnett Technical College) both received $550.

Each year, the PGMS Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to students in horticulture or related fields. The awards committee looks for students who have solid grades and past or current employment in the green industry, involvement in the industry with apprentice or professional organizations as well as civic projects and outreach programs. The committee also looks for any personal development classes and involvement in sports or clubs. Students must be sponsored by a PGMS member. “The scholarship program is a wonderful way to recognize interns that work for you or college students you meet in the industry,” said Scholarship Committee Chairman Gerald Landby.
