Twenty for 2017 New Product Award Winner profiles

Landscape and Irrigation recently announced the winners of its Twenty for 2017 New Product Awards program. Profiles of the winning products, in alphabetical order, are as follows:

Altoz’s TRX track zero-turn mower

The Altoz TRX provides patent-pending technology for commercial use on sloped, wet and untamed terrain. Rear-mounted tracks and torsional suspension system allow lawn care professionals, utility companies and municipalities to maintain areas they simply can’t effectively or safely cut with a traditional zero-turn mower. TRX track patterns are designed for maximum traction and stability yet minimal ground disturbance when turning — resulting in significantly less ground pressure and turf tears. Engine choices include Kohler Command Pro EFI or Vanguard EFI. Deck options include Aero Deck finish cut or an all-terrain, both are available in 61- or 66-inch widths.

Design Features:

  • Engines: Kohler Command Pro EFI 33 hp. or Vanguard EFI 37 hp.
  • Finish cut or all-terrain deck with 61- or 66-inch width options
  • Commercial twin hydro-gear ZT-5400 transmissions, high/low range
  • TorqFlex front suspension
  • 11-inch-wide track
  • 15-inch flat-free front tires
  • 14-gallon fuel capacity

Bobcat R-Series E35 R-Series compact excavator

The new Bobcat E35 R-Series compact excavator features a bold, distinct design, helping boost operator productivity and comfort, as well as machine uptime protection. A new dual-flange track roller system has been added to provide up to 15-percent increase in over-the-side capacity for greater digging performance and slewing ability. Operators will also experience improved ride quality, high-quality finish and a redesigned cab for an unbeatable operator experience.

Briggs & Stratton Vanguard Oil Guard System

The Vanguard Oil Guard System from Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power is a first-of-its-kind solution for the commercial turf market. It offers major productivity gains by allowing landscape contractors to increase their recommended oil change intervals from the current 100-hour interval to 500 hours, thereby decreasing their oil change labor and replacement filter costs — by more than 60 percent per season. The Vanguard Oil Guard System continuously exchanges oil between the engine and a large remote oil reservoir located external to the engine. It’s a revolutionary design for a commercial mower that protects engine oil from thermal breakdown, which extends maintenance intervals of the oil and produces a cooler-running engine. And because operators have direct access to the oil filter and drain tube, changing the oil is quicker, easier and mess-free. The Vanguard Oil Guard System is a factory-integrated technology, not an aftermarket add-on, for its Vanguard 810 and Big Block commercial engine series. The new technology is available on Ferris brand mowers.

Cub Cadet PRO Z 900

After enlisting 100 landscapers to put the PRO Z Series through rigorous real-world testing to help develop the line, Cub Cadet’s new line of commercial zero-turn mowers provides more strength, performance and comfort than ever. The PRO Z Series is designed to stand up to the demands of everyday professional use. The industry’s only triple-7-gauge deck features three layers of 7-gauge steel, plus 1/4-inch leading edge and 5/16-inch side reinforcements. The full-length steel frame, the 5/16-inch steel rear bumper, and the cutting deck are protected with e-coating — providing automotive-grade corrosion defense. High-torque commercial transmissions are paired with high-horsepower commercial-grade engines to provide optimal and consistent blade tip speed, powering through the thickest grass in one pass at maximum speeds. The PRO Z 900 features an air-ride seat for all-day comfort. The exclusive steering wheel option increases productivity, mowing hillsides and terrains that lap bars can’t handle.

The Air2HP injects pressurized air in a diameter of up to 3 feet, and up to 40 inches beneath the surface of the soil. This tool causes no unsightly turf disturbance with no post-treatment cleanup. An external air compressor is required for use (135 psi/1-hp./3 gallon/2.4 scfm @ 90psi minimum), or the Air2G2 machine, and is sold separately.

The frame also oscillates, keeping the operator upright and in control even on the most uneven terrains. With plenty of power, excellent traction, a low center of gravity and wide stance, it’s built for maintaining hill terrain and operating where other tractors typically can’t. The Steiner 450’s value is in the versatility, and the Quick-Hitch System makes it easier than ever to switch between 25-plus attachments. The lift arms are 50 percent stronger, so you can change attachments in less than a minute without any tools.

The Turfco TurnAer XT8 stand-on aerator is the solution for busy turf care professionals. It is nimble and versatile with speeds up to 7 mph, a 30-inch aerating width that can fit through a 48-inch gate, raised ground clearance to get over most curbs, and zero-turn agility. Patent-pending Auto-Depth Control allows operators to set a tine depth that is consistent across the property regardless of turf conditions. The rugged reliability of the XT8 minimizes downtime by utilizing covered drive chains outside the aeration area and using sealed, self-aligning bearings near the aeration area. Easily accessed chain tensioners and tines keep maintenance simple. Equipped with a 22-horsepower engine with a cyclonic air cleaner, the XT8 has the power to take on any terrain. Its standing platform suspension reduces vibration and shock for reduced operator fatigue and increased comfort.

Wright Sport I

Wright Manufacturing’s new 36-inch Sport Intensity (Sport I) mower is based on the popular Stander I. The compact mower combines all the features that make the Stander the industry’s leading stand-on mower with the choice of stand-on or sit down operation. The Sport I’s foldaway seat is positioned so the operator can step off for quick exits or to remove debris, and the mower stops immediately. An operator presence switch on the foot platform stops the blade and engine, and the control levers return to the neutral position when the operator lets go. All three engines — 18.5, 19 and 22 hp. — deliver a top speed of 8.2 mph, and the Sport I is covered by Wright’s two-year limited warranty. Wright’s floating Aero-Core deck on the Sport I tilts side-to-side and front-to-back, allowing the mower deck to better follow the terrain contours. It also improves the weight distribution for better handling on hills. The deck height can be adjusted “on the fly” in quarter-inch increments, and anti-scalp rollers automatically adjust the deck height to changes in terrain. Elastopolymer bumpers provide a dampened feel similar to a car. The bumpers are progressive to accommodate the weight of various operators.

Recessed caster wheels reduce the turning radius. This feature, combined with the compact footprint and outstanding control and handling, allows operators to trim as they mow. The compact size also means more mowers will fit on a trailer.
