Honorees of the Irrigation Association’s Awards and Honors Program will be presented at the upcoming Irrigation Show’s General Session on Nov. 5 in Orlando. Two of the winners are as follows:
Crawford Reid Memorial Award
Chris Le Conte, Smart Water Systems (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
The Crawford Reid Memorial Award was created to honor individuals who have significantly advanced both the irrigation industry and proper irrigation techniques and procedures outside of the United States. This year’s honoree, Chris Le Conte, founded Smart Watering Systems in Ontario in 2007, which quickly became one of the most successful landscape irrigation water management and consulting firms in Canada. The company later expanded to British Columbia. Through Smart Watering Systems, Chris and his staff have helped many of their clients achieve up to an 80 percent water savings per year in their landscape water use. A dedicated advocate for water conservation within the irrigation industry, Chris has served on numerous industry boards and committees, including the Ontario Water Works Association and is the outgoing chair of Landscape Ontario’s Irrigation Sector Group.
Partner of the Year
North Carolina Green Industry Council (Raleigh, NC)
The Partner of the Year Award honors a person or organization making exceptional contributions to the irrigation industry. The North Carolina Green Industry Council represents approximately 2,000 businesses in their region including landscape and irrigation contractors, retail garden centers, sod producers and other allied businesses. The council produces and distributes landscape and irrigation brochures throughout the state, secured a designation of July as Smart Irrigation Month from the governor of North Carolina, hosted a water symposium at North Carolina State University, and assisted a local municipal water utility in creating a water-saving program called Liquid Assets. The council lobbies on behalf of water and landscape issues and has become a unifying force for allied green industry interests within the state.
