Stihl rep receives PLANET appointment
Stihl Inc. announced that Roger Phelps, promotional communications manager for the company, has been named to the Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET) Academic Excellence Foundation (AEF) board of directors. Stihl Inc. is a founding partner of PLANET AEF, which was formed to provide academic assistance to promising students hoping to pursue a career in the green industry.
A Navy veteran, Phelps joined Stihl in 2001 as the company’s event marketing specialist. In his current position, he oversees the activities of the promotional communications department, which includes public relations, social media, events and sponsorships.
“I am honored to serve the PLANET AEF board and its mission to promote and advance the green industry by funding educational excellence,” said Phelps, who is a certified landscape professional, as well as a board member for PLANET and the National Hispanic Landscape Alliance (NHLA). “These young people are the future leaders and advocates for our industry, and it is vital that we do everything possible to support their education and professional development.”
Since its inception in 1998, the PLANET AEF has given almost $600,000 in scholarships and awards. As part of its support, Stihl annually awards a student studying in the area of green industry a $1,000 scholarship. Starting in 2011, the Stihl scholarship will be awarded to a Hispanic student interested in a green industry career.
